Drivenbyahostofemergingapplications,distributedsourcecodinghasassumedrenewedinterestinthepastdecade.AlthoughtheSlepian-Wolftheoremhasbeenknownforalmost40yearsandprogresseshavebeenmaderecentlyontherateregionofquadraticGaussiantwo-terminalsourcecoding,findingthesum-rateboundofquadraticGaussianmultiterminal(MT)sourcecodingwithmorethantwoterminalsisstillanopenproblem.Inthistalk,I\'llbrieflygooverexistingresultsondistributedsourcecodingproblemsbeforedescribingasetofnewresultsweobtainedrecently.

Imagerestorationaimingatrecoveringahigh-qualityimagefromitsdegradedversionhasbeenextensivelystudiedinthepastdecades.Theemergingofthecompressivesensingtheoryhasledtoaflurryofresearchonsparsity-basedimagerestoration,showingsomepromisingimagereconstructionresults.However,thesparserepresentationmodelmaynotberobustforafaithfulreconstructionoftheoriginalimageduetothedegradationoftheobservedimage.Inthistalk,Iwillintroduceourrecentworkonsparsity-basedimageinterpolationusingnonlocalautoregressivemodeling.Inthiswork,weshowthatthenonlocalautoregressivemodelcanserveasaneffectiveconstraintthatcanincreasetheincoherencebetweentherepresentationbasesandthesamplingmatrix,andthussignificantlyimprovetheinterpolationperformance.Ithistalk,Iwillalsointroduceourrecentworkonlow-rankapproximationbasedsparsecoding,showingsomeinterestingconnectionsbetweenstructuredsparsecodingandlow-rankapproximation.

Thisworkstudiestheproblemofvision-basedsimultaneouslocalizationandmapping(SLAM)indynamicenvironmentswithmultiplecameras.Thesecamerasmoveindependentlyandcanbemountedondifferentplatforms.Allcamerasworktogethertobuildaglobalmap,including3Dpositionsofstaticbackgroundpointsandtrajectoriesofmovingforegroundpoints.TheauthorsaddressseveralchallengingissuesindesigningsuchaSLAMsystem.ResultsshowthattheproposedCoSLAMsystemcanhandlehighlydynamicscenesandautomaticallygroupcamerasintodifferentcliqueswherecamerasworkcollaboratively.Thesystemweretestedusingasmanyas12camerastoworktogethertobuildanindoorscene.
