Abstract:Inthistalk,IwillpresentahybridArbitrary-Lagrangian-Eulerian(ALE)-Phase-Fieldmethodforthedirectnumericalsimulationofmultiphaseflowswherefluidinterfaces,movingrigidparticles,andmovingcontactlinescoexist.PracticalapplicationsincludePickeringemulsions,frothflotation,andbiolocomotionatfluidinterface.AnALEalgorithmbasedonaGalerkinfiniteelementmethodandanadaptivemovingmeshisusedtotrackthemovingboundariesofrigidparticles.Aphase-fieldmethodbasedonthesamemovingmeshisusedtocapturethefluidinterfaces;meanwhile,theCahn-Hilliarddiffusionautomaticallytakescareofthestresssingularityatthemovingcontactlinewhenafluidinterfaceintersectsasolidsurface.Allthegoverningequations,i.e.,equationsforfluids,interfaces,andparticles,aresolvedimplicitlyinaunifiedvariationalframework.Asaresult,thehydrodynamicforcesandmomentsonparticlesdonotappearexplicitlyintheformulationandanenergylawholdsforthewholesystem.Thethree-phaseflowisessentiallyfreeofparasiticcurrentsifthesurfacetensiontermisproperlyformulated.IntheendIwillpresentsomeresultsonthewaterentryproblemandthecapillaryinteractionbetweenfloatingparticles(a.k.a.theCheerioseffect),withafocusontheeffectofcontact-linedynamics.

Abstract:Exploringnewoxygenelectrocatalystsforoxygenreductionandevolutionreactions(ORRandOER)hasbeenoneofhottesttopicsinrecentyears.Thistutorialpresentationwillintroducerecommendedpracticesformeasuringtheoxygenelectrocatalysts.Theobjectiveofthispresentationistohelpnewstudentsandlearnerstomasterthebasicknowledgeandlabskillsforreliableelectrochemicalmeasurements.Somesimpledemonstrationwillbegivenalongwiththeintroduction.Theskillstobeintroducedincludes1)electrodepreparation,2)electrochemicalcellset-uppreparation,3)potentialconversionprinciples,4)measurementpracticesforORRandOER,5)dataanalysis,6)mass-transportcorrection,7)iR-dropcorrection,8)capacitancecorrection,9)datastorageanddocumentation,and10)somedetailsneedattentionduringthemeasurement.Biosketch:ZhichuanisanassociateprofessorinSchoolofMaterialsScienceandEngineering,NanyangTechnologicalUniversity.HereceivedhisPhDdegreeinElectroanalyticalChemistryat2008andB.S.degreeinChemistryat2002fromLanzhouUniversity,China.HisPhDtrainingwasreceivedinLanzhouUniversity(2002-2004),InstituteofPhysics,CAS(2004-2005),andBrownUniversity(2005-2007).Since2007,heworkedinStateUniversityofNewYorkatBinghamtonasaResearchAssociateandfrom2009heworkedinMassachusettsInstituteofTechnologyasaPostdoctoralResearcher.Dr.XuismemberofInternationalSocietyofElectrochemistry(ISE),TheElectrochemistrySociety(ECS),andAmericanAssociationfortheAdvancementofScience(AAAS).HewasawardedFellowofRoyalSocietyofChemistry(FRSC)inNov.2017.HeservedasaguesteditorforthespecialissueICEI2016ofElectrochimicaActaandanassociateeditorforNano-MicroLetters.HeisalsothedevelopmenteditorforCurrentOpinioninElectrochemistryandthevicepresidentofECSSingaporeSection.Dr.Xuis2018HighlyCitedResearcherbyClarivateAnalytics,WebofScience.

报告内容简介:Particleaccelerationprocessesinreconnectingmagneticfieldsareattheheartofallhighenergyphenomena,whethertheyoccurinaccretiondisksandjetssurroundingblackholes,inpulsarwindsandnebulae,orinourownSolarcorona.Solarflaresprovidespatiallyandtemporallyresolvedtestbedsforallastrophysicalcounterpartswheremagneticreconnectionmediatesenergyconversionandrelease.Inthestandardsolarflaremodel,thebasicingredientsforflareprocessesarewell-identifiedandtheyhavebeenverifiedagainstmulti-wavelengthobservationalviews.Still,someaspectsremaindebated,andthisistrueespeciallyforthesourceregionsofhardX-rays(aboveorder25keV).Weidentifiedapreviouslyoverlookedingredienttothestandardsolarflaremodel,whichisaconsequenceofthesuddenenergydepositionnearthechromospherebydownwardsacceleratedparticles.Whileitisknownthattheseleadtoevaporationflowsthatinvadetheflaringloop,multi-dimensionalmagnetohydrodynamicmodellingrevealedthatonefrequentlyencounterssituationswheretheupflowsfrombothlooplegsmeetupinaloop-toplocalized,turbulentfashion.Attheloopapex,Kelvin-Helmholtzinstability(KHI)oftheinteractingflowssetsinandthermalsoftX-ray(SXR)photonsareaboundinthisinteractionzone.Wemodelledthisprocessinisolationoftheoverarchingreconnectionsite,andfoundthattheintrinsicallyfragmentedmagneticfieldtopologyduetotheKHIvorticaldisruptioncanexplainhardX-ray(HXR)sourcesinloopapexes.A2.5DnumericalMHDsimulationisperformedinwhichweincorporatethepenetrationofhighenergyelectronsasaspatio-temporaldependenttriggerforchromosphericevaporationflows.ExtremeUltra-violet(EUV),SXRandHXRemissionaresynthesizedbasedontheevolvingplasmaparametersandgivenenergeticelectronspectra.KHIturbulenceleadstoclearbrightnessfluctuationsintheEUV,SXRandHXRemission,withtheSXRlightcurvedemonstratingaclearquasi-periodicpulsation(QPP)withperiodof26s.ThisQPPderivesfromalocallytrapped,faststandingwavethatresonatesinbetweenKHIvortices.References:Fang,X.etal,2016,ApJ,833,36Ruan,W.etal,2018,A&A,618,A135Ruan,W.etal,2019,submittedforpublication
