Ahmed MEHAOUA is a Full Professor of Computer Communication at the school of Mathematics and Computer Science of University of Paris Descartes, France. He is the Head of Multimedia Networking and Security Department at LIPADE, a governmental computer science research center in Paris, France. His research interests include security and resource management in Wireless Medical Sensor Networks, Design of Wireless Area Body Networking for medical and health applications, and Video communications. Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN) emerges into the mainstream of the medical implant communication services to provide various services, including continuous and remote health monitoring with real-time updates of medical records, early detection of medical conditions, or paralyzed muscle stimulation. In WBAN, the embedded/attached sets of sensors and actuators in the human body are designed to collect the desired physiological data, thus a high level of security, privacy and reliability is required to make them viable. Besides, the dynamic nature of the radio channel in WBAN make difficult the design of lightweight and context-aware communication protocols which are able to make a trade-off between reliability, cost and efficiency. Therefore, this talk will give an overview of some Wireless BAN challenges and solutions in designing energy efficient WBAN systems with real-time anomaly detection for reliable remote healthcare monitoring services.
